Feed this COGS into the profit calculators as your “product cost” — the true landed cost, not a guess.
The VAT-included line is informational: it assumes purchase price is entered VAT-excluded. If your invoice already includes VAT, don’t add it again. Confirm the exact rate/amounts from your own records.
What is COGS and why it matters
COGS (cost of goods sold), also called landed cost, is the true unit cost of getting a product ready to sell. Many sellers mistake the supplier purchase price for the cost and forget the extras stacked on top of it. Every profit and margin decision starts from this number, so getting it wrong throws off everything downstream.
This calculator sums five per-unit line items into a single cost:
- Purchase price — the unit price you pay the supplier or factory.
- Freight share — inbound shipping/logistics spread over the units.
- Packaging — box, filler, label and other packing materials.
- Customs & tax — import duty and any per-unit tax burden.
- Labor / other — assembly, quality control or any remaining unit cost.
The formula is a plain sum: COGS = purchase + freight + packaging + customs + labor. For example, 120 + 8 + 5 + 0 + 3 = 136 TL per unit. The tool also shows a VAT-included line (COGS × 1.20) purely for information, in case you entered the purchase price VAT-excluded — if your invoice already includes VAT, ignore that line.
Use this COGS in your profit calculations
COGS is only the cost side. To turn it into a decision, carry this number into the profit margin calculator as your product cost and see the margin and markup against your sale price. A cost that is understated by a few lira per unit quietly eats your margin across thousands of orders.
Keep in mind that COGS does not include the sales-side deductions — marketplace commission, outbound shipping/desi, service fee, advertising and withholding tax. For your real net profit after all of those, use the Trendyol profit calculator, and to separate the tax inside a price take a look at the VAT calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is product cost (COGS) calculated?
COGS is the sum of every unit cost that gets a product ready to sell: purchase/manufacturing price + freight share + packaging + customs and tax + labor and other. For example, with a 120 TL purchase, 8 TL freight, 5 TL packaging, 0 TL customs and 3 TL labor, the unit cost is 136 TL. This tool adds up the line items and gives you the true unit cost.
Are COGS and purchase price the same thing?
No. Purchase price is only what you pay the supplier for the product, while COGS covers every cost incurred until the product reaches your hands/warehouse (landed cost). If you leave out freight, packaging, customs and labor, you understate the cost and miscalculate your margin.
How do I find the freight share per unit?
Divide the total shipment/logistics cost by the number of units in that shipment. For example, if 800 TL of freight was paid for 100 units, the freight share per unit is 8 TL. If different products share the same shipment, allocating by volumetric (desi) or weight share is more accurate.
What is the VAT-included cost line for?
If you entered the purchase price VAT-excluded, the VAT-included line shows, for information only, roughly what the cost is with tax (COGS × 1.20). If your invoice already includes VAT, ignore this line and don't add it again. Confirm the exact rate and amounts from your own records.
How do I feed this cost into a profit calculation?
Enter the resulting COGS value into the "product cost" field of the profit and margin calculators. Without an accurate unit cost, your margin, markup and net profit results will be wrong too, so use the real cost from here instead of a guess.
Are commission and shipping included in COGS?
No. COGS is what the product costs you; marketplace commission, outbound shipping, service fee, advertising and withholding tax are costs on the sales side and are deducted separately in the net profit calculation. This tool doesn't include those sales deductions — for them, use the Trendyol profit calculator.
