How is net profit calculated on Trendyol?
On Trendyol, "sale price minus product cost" is not profit; at least six line-item deductions come in between. The correct calculation is done in this order:
- Calculate the commission from the label price. Commission = VAT-inclusive sale price × category rate; the invoice is issued VAT-inclusive, with no extra VAT added on top. For 450 TL and 20% commission the deduction is 90 TL.
- Separate the VAT. The label price is VAT-inclusive; for the withholding tax and VAT calculation, base = sale price ÷ (1 + VAT rate). For 450 TL and 20% VAT the base is 375 TL.
- Choose the shipping bracket first. Orders below 350 TL and up to 10 desi use the 0–199.99 TL or 200–349.99 TL bracket, with separate advantageous and standard dispatch rates. Orders of 350 TL or more, or above 10 desi, use the full desi tariff: in the official July 13, 2026 Aras list, 0-2 desi is 88.96 TL, 5 desi is 117.85 TL and 10 desi is 164.23 TL. All of these figures exclude 20% VAT.
- Deduct the service fee. 10,99 TL + VAT per package (13,19 TL); with the 'Bugün Kargoda' (same-day shipping) label a discounted rate applies (verify the current amount from your panel).
- Deduct the 1% withholding tax. 1% of the VAT-exclusive base is withheld from your payout.
- Calculate the VAT payable. From the VAT you collect on the sale, deduct the VAT you paid on the product purchase and on the commission/shipping/service-fee invoices; the remaining amount goes to the state.
- Add the return share. Every return burns at least round-trip shipping. For bracket-eligible returns, the return leg uses the advantageous rate; average cost per sale is (VAT-inclusive outbound + VAT-inclusive return) × return rate.
What remains is your net profit. You find the net profit margin by dividing it by the VAT-inclusive sale price; the calculator above shows all these steps line by line.
The most common mistake in commission: the VAT base
The most common mistake is calculating the commission from the VAT-exclusive base. Trendyol calculates the commission from the VAT-inclusive sale price and issues the invoice VAT-inclusive; no extra VAT is added on top, and the product's own VAT rate does not change the result. Here is the tricky part: on a product with 20% VAT the old-style "base × rate × 1,20" happens to give the same figure (375 × 20% × 1,20 = 450 × 20% = 90 TL), so the mistake goes unnoticed on most products. But on products with 1% VAT (like books) or 10% VAT (like food) the difference appears: on a 450 TL product with 1% VAT the deduction is still 450 × 20% = 90 TL — a seller calculating from the base expects 445,54 × 20% × 1,20 ≈ 106,93 TL and can never reconcile it against the statement.
The 4 hidden costs sellers forget
- 1% withholding tax: deducted from your payout on marketplace sales since 2025. It looks small but on a product with a 10% margin it amounts to a tenth of your profit. For a detailed calculation you can use the e-commerce withholding tax calculator.
- Return cost: on a return the commission comes back but the round-trip shipping comes out of your pocket. On a 2-desi product, a 5% return rate can add several lira per sale depending on the order-value bracket and carrier.
- Service fee: 10,99 TL + VAT per package (2026). On low basket amounts it reaches a serious ratio: on a 150 TL order it is an 8,8% deduction on its own.
- Ads: click costs that look small per product are 3-10% for most sellers once expressed as a share of revenue, and they come straight off your net margin.
Since all of these items are deducted from your payout, the answer to "why was my payment short" usually hides right here; you can produce an order-by-order breakdown with the Trendyol payout calculator.
Example: line by line across 3 scenarios
Three realistic scenarios (20% VAT, 5% return rate, ads excluded; items shown VAT-exclusive). The 150 TL phone-case scenario assumes the advantageous Aras bracket; the other two orders use the full desi tariff:
| Item | Kitchen item | Hair straightener | Phone case |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sale price (VAT included) | 450,00 ₺ | 1.200,00 ₺ | 150,00 ₺ |
| VAT-exclusive sale (base) | 375,00 ₺ | 1.000,00 ₺ | 125,00 ₺ |
| Product cost (VAT excluded) | -150,00 ₺ | -541,67 ₺ | -33,33 ₺ |
| Commission (19,32% / 17,5% / 22%) | -72,45 ₺ | -175,00 ₺ | -27,50 ₺ |
| Shipping (2 / 3 / 1 desi) | -88,96 ₺ | -100,84 ₺ | -48,33 ₺ |
| Service fee | -10,99 ₺ | -10,99 ₺ | -10,99 ₺ |
| Withholding tax (1%) | -3,75 ₺ | -10,00 ₺ | -1,25 ₺ |
| Return share (5%, round-trip shipping) | -10,68 ₺ | -12,10 ₺ | -5,80 ₺ |
| Net profit (margin) | 38,17 ₺ (8,5%) | 149,40 ₺ (12,5%) | -2,20 ₺ (-1,5%) |
Because the VAT on the commission, shipping and service-fee invoices is deducted from the sales VAT, the items in the table are shown VAT-exclusive; the result is the same as the net profit calculated with the VAT-inclusive cash flow. The third scenario shows a typical trap: even with the advantageous bracket, fixed costs (shipping + service fee = 59.32 TL excluding VAT) eat about 39.5% of the 150 TL price and the sale turns into a loss. This is why, for low-basket products, either raising the price or setting up a multi-pack/bundle is essential.
Full desi rates use Trendyol's official July 13, 2026 contracted shipping list. The public bracket amounts use EZV's current secondary compilation because the official public PDF does not list those amounts. Trendyol may change both; rely on the current rates and actual deduction in Seller Center.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Trendyol's commission calculated on the VAT-inclusive price?
Yes. The commission is applied to the VAT-inclusive sale price the customer pays, and the commission invoice is issued VAT-inclusive — no extra VAT is added on top, and the result is independent of the product's own VAT rate. On the invoice the amount is broken down as base + VAT for accounting, and you can claim that VAT as a deduction on your tax return.
What is the 1% withholding tax and who pays it?
It is a tax deduction introduced by Law No. 7524 and applied since 2025: marketplaces like Trendyol withhold 1% of the VAT-exclusive sale amount when paying the seller and deposit it to the tax office on the seller's behalf. It is not an additional tax but an advance payment of income/corporate tax; it is offset against the tax calculated on your annual return.
Is the service fee deducted on every order?
It is charged once for each package handed over to the carrier; the standard amount is 10.99 TL + VAT per package (13.19 TL). If you create a 'Bugün Kargoda' (same-day shipping) label and hand the order to the carrier the same day, the discounted rate has been 4.99 TL + VAT (5.99 TL) since June 15, 2026; verify the current amount in Seller Center. This fee is not charged on return shipments.
Is the commission refunded on a return?
Yes. When the customer returns the product or the order is cancelled, the deducted commission comes back to the seller — not as a cash payment, but by being offset against the next commission invoice. The real cost of a return to you is usually the round-trip shipping and the risk of wear on the product.
What are Trendyol's commission rates in 2026?
The listed category rates range roughly from 7% to 27%. For example, smartphones are around 7%, televisions 8%, major appliances 11%, baby products 16.5%, clothing 21.36%, shoes 23.39%, and phone parts 27%. Check your product's exact rate in Seller Center.
Does the seller pay for shipping?
Yes; Trendyol deducts the contracted carrier fee from the seller's payout. Orders below 350 TL and up to 10 desi use either the 0–199.99 TL or 200–349.99 TL bracket; orders of 350 TL or more, or above 10 desi, use the full desi tariff. Advantageous and standard dispatch conditions have different bracket rates, quoted before VAT. Verify the exact deduction in Seller Center.
How do I include ad cost in net profit?
The most practical way is to express it as a share of revenue: divide your total ad spend in a period by that period's sales revenue (ACOS) and enter this percentage into the ad field in the calculator. For example, if you spend 3.000 TL on ads a month while generating 60.000 TL in revenue, your ad rate is 5%.
What is a healthy net profit margin on Trendyol?
There is no hard rule, but a practical range is: below 10% is fragile (one wave of returns or a commission increase can wipe out the profit), 10-20% is healthy for most categories, and above 20% is strong. If your margin is negative, you should recalculate your price using the target-price mode.
Does VAT affect net profit?
For a VAT-registered seller, VAT is not a cost but money held in trust: from the VAT you collect on the sale you deduct the VAT you paid on purchases and on the commission/shipping/service-fee invoices, and pay the difference to the state. However, if you sell a product with 1% VAT, because your deduction invoices carry 20% VAT your deductible VAT can exceed your sales VAT and create a carried-forward VAT balance.
How do I set a target sale price?
First decide on the net margin you want to reach, then solve the price backwards while accounting for all deductions (commission, shipping, service fee, withholding tax, return share, ads). The 'Find target price' mode on this page does this reverse calculation automatically; when doing it by hand, the most common mistake is forgetting some of the deductions.
